At Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, we believe nonpartisan voter engagement is critical to building strong and stable communities. We support Minnesotans as they prepare to vote and engage in our democratic election process because we understand it’s a significant part of making our vision a reality: a world where everyone can have a safe, stable, affordable home. This year is crucial because it’s a local election year, presenting an excellent opportunity to bring attention to the issue of affordable housing. Most importantly, we want to ensure you have all the necessary information about important election dates, what will be on your ballot, and your various options for voting, whether it’s early in person, by mail, or on the actual election day. And of course, we want you to know your voting rights.

Voting Information

To vote in Minnesota, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day. You also must have lived in Minnesota for at least 20 days. Not all areas in Minnesota will have elections in 2023. You can use the Polling Place Finder to find any upcoming elections in your area based on your address. Becoming an Informed Voter

By familiarizing yourself with the candidates and issues on your ballot, you’ll be better prepared to address the concerns that matter most to you. Attend candidate forums, ask questions, and conduct research to ensure that candidates and ballot measures align with your values and the needs of your community. Are the candidates aware of and addressing the need for more affordable housing for families in your community?

Know Your Voting Rights

As a voter in Minnesota, you have several rights to protect your voting experience. Including these new laws which will take effect for the 2023 election:

  • NEW: Restoring the Vote: Minnesotans with felony convictions who are no longer incarcerated for the felony offense can now vote.
  • NEW: Pre-Registration for 16- and 17-year-olds: 16- and 17-year-old Minnesotans can submit a voter registration form, and their registration will become active on their 18th birthday.
